Frequently asked questions

What does  it cost?

When your instrument arrives we will inspect and advise the cost of repairs or servicing.  If your instrument is covered under our ‘5 years free servicing and repairs’ then there is no charge for servicing and ‘wear and tear’ repairs.   All we ask you to cover is collection and delivery.   If your instrument has a genuine manufacture fault then we will refund collect and deliver charges.  If your instrument has been damaged through misuse then you may be liable to a charge.  We will always contact you prior to carrying out additional work.

If you are unsure whether your instrument is eligible for free servicing you can check here:  Is my instrument eligible for free servicing and repairs?

How long does it take?

By booking your instrument in for servicing you can be sure to have your instrument turned around quickly unless there is considerable extra work required (in which case we will advise you.)     We usually despatch parcels on Wednesdays,  which means that you will receive your instrument back on the Thursday or Friday following your booking.  If you need your instrument returned the same or next day, or have any other requirement please tell us on the booking notes and we will do our very best to help you.  If there is something particularly urgent please call us and check before sending.   We will always do our best to accommodate you.

Is there anything you won’t repair free?

Yes.   Our free repair service is intended to help keep your instrument in good playing order, to help you with common problems that might otherwise cost a lot and take a long time.  We don’t offer free repairs for anything cosmetic  so if you scratch or dent your instrument or don’t clean it we won’t offer to fix it for free.  Our goodwill repair scheme is intended to take care of general ‘wear and tear’ items.  It’s not a replacement for insurance and we can’t offer free repairs for major loss or damage.

We highly recommend that you take independent insurance cover for your instrument – it’s usually much better AND cheaper than including your instrument on a household policy.

For more details check out a specialist insurer such as BBIS or Allianz

What is meant by: “our repair scheme is a goodwill service”?

Our repairs are offered free of charge as goodwill to our customers and this service is discretionary.  Some high street shops that have an ‘in house’ repairer will also offer such a service in order to look after customers.  However, by offering this service we do not enter in to a contract and if we have any reason to believe that damage has been deliberate or malicious for example then we reserve the right to refuse the service free of charge.

Which couriers do you use?

We use usually use Interlink Express,  Parcelforce and Royal Mail.    For your security we will always use a ‘signed for’ and insured service.    If there is no-one there to hand over your parcel when the courier arrives the courier company still charge for sending a driver to collect and no refund can be made.  Please ensure that someone is in to hand over your parcel.

  • For your peace of mind we collect and send using a tracked courier service and include insurance for loss or damage.
  • We can only arrange collection / return in the UK.

How should I pack my instrument for sending?

Please send us the complete instrument and any mouthpiece you would like working on (if you need a mouthpiece cork adjusting for example).  We suggest to pack your instrument in it’s case,  then put it into a sturdy cardboard box and protect inside with bubble wrap.
